Q. What will happen at the first appointment?
A. The initial consultation will last for about 1.5 hours and will involve the Vet taking a detailed history from you and carrying out a full examination and gait analysis. We will also start treatment at this appointment and will talk through this with you at the time, depending on what is determined from the examination.
If your appointment is for a cat, it would be extremely helpful if you could video your cat at home before the appointment, so we can see how they move and behave in their normal environment. The vet can then view this at the initial appointment.
Q. How many appointments will my pet need?
A. We will monitor your pet’s progress and response to treatment at each appointment and discuss a plan with you. It is often difficult to estimate the number of visits a patient will need before starting treatment but generally we would usually see them every 1-2 weeks for at least 4 visits.
Q. Is there parking?
A. Yes, both our clinics have parking. In Cardiff, please park in a space marked with a number 8.
Q. Can I stay with my pet during the appointment?
A. Yes. Your pet may be taken away for some parts of their treatment, but this will be discussed with you at your appointment.
Q. My pet has behavioural/anxiety needs, can we still come?
A. Yes, we have staff trained in animal behaviour, and are able to adapt our treatment environment to suit our patients’ needs. Please make staff aware before your appointment, if you have not already done so.
Q. Can I claim this treatment on my pet insurance?
A. Yes. Our charges are invoiced as a consultation and separate treatment costs. Some insurance providers assign these costs to Veterinary Fees, some to Complementary and some may split the costs between Vet Fees and Complementary. In some cases this may mean that 2 excesses will be taken. If you would like more information about how your insurance company allocate our costs, please contact us.
Please note: whether claiming for treatment directly or indirectly, it is your responsibility as the policy holder to monitor any limits that can be applied to claims. If you need any assistance with this, please do not hesitate to ask us.
Q. Can I do a direct claim?
A. Yes. If you wish to claim directly on your pet insurance, there is a one-off admin fee, and you must bring a copy of your policy schedule and 2 signed claim forms (unless your insurance company accepts claims via VetEnvoy/online portal) to this first appointment. If you do not have this, full payment will be required at the time of treatment. Unfortunately we are unable to claim directly with Waggel.
Q. Can I claim on a third party insurance policy (eg my dog walker’s insurance)?
A. Yes. If you wish to claim directly on a third party insurance policy, there is an admin fee of £50, and you must provide all the details required for us to submit a claim. If these details are not provided by the first appointment, payment will be required at the time of treatment.
