POST SURGICAL CASES

  • Cruciate surgery
  • Patella surgery
  • Hip Surgery including TPO and total hip replacement
  • Femoral Head Excisions
  • Spinal surgery
  • Pelvic and limb fractures

The goal of post surgical rehabilitation is to minimise muscle wastage and improve joint motion after surgery resulting in an improved outcome and an earlier return to function.

NEUROLOGICAL CASES

  • Intervertebral disk disease
  • Lumbosacral disease
  • Cervical spondylomyelopathy
  • Discospondylitis
  • Degenerating conditions

NON SURGICAL CASES

  • Hip Dysplasia
  • Elbow Dysplasia
  • Angular limb deformities
  • Bicipital tenosynovitis
  • Arthritis

GERIATRIC DOGS

The rehabilitation of older animals is particularly rewarding and can vastly improve quality of life.

Reversing a sedentary lifestyle has the benefits of:

  • Improved cartilage metabolism
  • Improved muscle tone
  • Improved cardiovascular function

A combination of the following techniques can be used in animals who exhibit an intolerance to NSAID therapy, thus improving their quality of life

  • Acupuncture
  • Therapeutic exercise and stretches
  • Massage
  • Neutraceuticals (Glucosamine, Manganese)
  • Appropriate medication
  • TSE
  • Heat / Aquatic therapy

Many dogs on such a programme will show a marked increase in exercise tolerance, becoming much brighter in demeanour with improved muscle strength and circulation.

OBESITY CONTROL

In humans, obesity is strongly associated with the development of osteoarthritis and joint disease. However a loss of just 5kg can decrease the odds of developing osteoarthritis by 50%.

When exercise is performed in water, the energy expended is significantly greater when compared to the same exercise performed on land.

The viscosity and resistance of the water makes it much harder to move forward when compared to moving in air (land).

The resistance that the water provides acts to:

  • Strengthen canine muscles
  • Improve cardiovascular fitness
  • Improve muscle endurance
