Animal Rehabilitation

Any successful rehabilitation programme has to address two basic principles

  • Manage Pain
  • Improve Movement

It is often difficult to assess whether an animal is in pain. The following can all be signs of chronic pain:

  • Reduced appetite
  • Reluctance to exercise
  • Reluctance to play or aggression towards other dogs
  • Constant shifting of position and disturbed sleep
  • Inability to use litter tray

At the clinic we will undergo a detailed pain evaluation, using a combination of detailed history taking and thorough clinical examination to assess the degree of pain and the most appropriate treatment.

Once the animal is comfortable then it will be far more inclined to work with us whether we are trying to improve joint movement, build muscle, strengthen bone or train the neurological system. To aid us in this task, regular sessions in the aquatic treadmill will be coupled with core stability work or "pilatis" for dogs and exercises to improve coordination and agility.

Successful rehabilitation can aid in:

  • Improved movement following surgery
  • Non surgical management of various conditions such as hip Dysplasia
  • Improve quality of life in the face of arthritis
  • Aid weight loss
